✅ Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for SSC JE Recruitment 2026 depends on the organization and post selected. Candidates must satisfy the prescribed nationality, educational qualification and other post-specific requirements before submitting the application.
Nationality / Citizenship
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India, subject to the required eligibility certificate from the Government of India.
Educational Qualification
- JE Civil: Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute, or a three-year diploma in Civil Engineering with relevant experience where prescribed by the concerned organization.
- JE Electrical / Mechanical / Electrical & Mechanical: Degree or diploma in the relevant engineering discipline, with experience requirements applicable for certain organizations.
- JE Telecom: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in relevant disciplines such as Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation.
- Scientific Assistant, IMD: Bachelor's degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or a relevant bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering.
The exact qualification and experience requirement can differ between organizations. 🔞 Age Limit

The application fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay debit card. The fee payment deadline is 23 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM. The fee once paid is non-refundable and applications with unpaid or incomplete fee status are rejected.
🎯 Selection Process
The SSC JE 2026 selection process includes computer-based examinations followed by document verification and, wherever applicable, physical standards and medical examination.
- Paper-I: Computer Based Examination covering General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and the relevant engineering/technical subject. It contains 200 questions for 200 marks and has a duration of 2 hours, with 2 hours 40 minutes for eligible candidates using a scribe. Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for each wrong answer.
- Paper-II: Computer Based Examination based on the relevant engineering/technical subject. It contains 100 questions for 300 marks and has a duration of 2 hours, or 2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribe candidates. Negative marking of 1 mark applies for each wrong answer.
- Document Verification: Provisionally selected candidates must produce original educational, category, age, experience and other required certificates for verification.
- Physical Standards and Medical Examination: Applicable to posts and organizations where such requirements are prescribed, including relevant Border Roads Organisation/BRO posts.
Separate merit lists are prepared for the relevant disciplines/posts as specified in the notification. The examination papers are objective-type multiple-choice examinations conducted in Hindi and English.
