The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the notification for SSC JE Recruitment 2026 for the Junior Engineer (JE) Examination, 2026. The recruitment covers JE posts in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electrical & Mechanical and Telecom disciplines, along with Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department. A total of 1,748 tentative vacancies have been notified across various Central Government organizations. SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies under the SSC JE Examination 2026. The vacancies cover Junior Engineer posts in different engineering disciplines and Scientific Assistant in IMD. The final organization-wise and category-wise vacancy details will be published separately by SSC under its tentative vacancy information.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for SSC JE Recruitment 2026 depends on the organization and post selected. Candidates must satisfy the prescribed nationality, educational qualification and other post-specific requirements before submitting the application.

Nationality / Citizenship

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India, subject to the required eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Educational Qualification

• JE Civil: Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute, or a three-year diploma in Civil Engineering with relevant experience where prescribed by the concerned organization.
• JE Electrical / Mechanical / Electrical & Mechanical: Degree or diploma in the relevant engineering discipline, with experience requirements applicable for certain organizations.
• JE Telecom: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in relevant disciplines such as Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation.
• Scientific Assistant, IMD: Bachelor's degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or a relevant bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering.

The exact qualification and experience requirement can differ between organizations. Candidates should match their qualification with the specific organization and post mentioned in the official SSC JE notification before applying. Qualifications obtained through Open and Distance Learning or online mode in restricted engineering disciplines are subject to the applicable rules and permissions.

🔞 Age Limit

The crucial date for determining age is 01 August 2026. The upper age limit depends on the organization and post.

SSC JE Age Relaxation

Age relaxation is not admissible to sons, daughters and other dependents of Ex-Servicemen.

💸 Application Fee

The application fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay debit card. The fee payment deadline is 23 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM. The fee once paid is non-refundable and applications with unpaid or incomplete fee status are rejected.

🎯 Selection Process

The SSC JE 2026 selection process includes computer-based examinations followed by document verification and, wherever applicable, physical standards and medical examination.

• Paper-I: Computer Based Examination covering General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and the relevant engineering/technical subject. It contains 200 questions for 200 marks and has a duration of 2 hours, with 2 hours 40 minutes for eligible candidates using a scribe. Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for each wrong answer.
• Paper-II: Computer Based Examination based on the relevant engineering/technical subject. It contains 100 questions for 300 marks and has a duration of 2 hours, or 2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribe candidates. Negative marking of 1 mark applies for each wrong answer.
• Document Verification: Provisionally selected candidates must produce original educational, category, age, experience and other required certificates for verification.
• Physical Standards and Medical Examination: Applicable to posts and organizations where such requirements are prescribed, including relevant Border Roads Organisation/BRO posts.

Separate merit lists are prepared for the relevant disciplines/posts as specified in the notification. The examination papers are objective-type multiple-choice examinations conducted in Hindi and English.
