👤 GDS Post Details & Duties

Post Major Duties
Branch Postmaster (BPM) Responsible for day-to-day functioning of the Branch Post Office, postal operations, IPPB transactions, mail delivery, marketing of postal services and other assigned duties.
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) Assists in postal operations, sale of stamps and stationery, mail conveyance and delivery, IPPB transactions and other assigned duties.
Dak Sevak Works in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices or Delivery Centres and performs mail, parcel, postal and other assigned duties.

  • Educational Qualification: Candidate must have passed the Secondary School Examination / Class 10 from a recognized board.
  • Mathematics & English: Candidates must have passed Mathematics and English in Class 10.
  • Local Language: Candidate must have studied the prescribed local language up to Class 10 for the selected Postal Circle.
  • Computer Knowledge: Basic computer knowledge is required as prescribed by the Department of Posts.

Gramin Dak Sevaks are not regular Central Government employees. They are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with applicable Dearness Allowance and other benefits as per GDS rules.
